Renting a boat for several days on the Costa Brava: your options

Renting a boat for several days on the Costa Brava lets you split the northern and southern coves across different days, choose your route each morning according to the wind or, on some boats, sleep on board. Here you will find which boats allow it, what 3 and 7 days cost according to their listings, which licence you need and what to plan. They all leave from Port Marina Palamós.

Two ways to do it

Going out each day and returning to harbour

This is what motorboats with multi-day rates offer: according to their listings, the boat spends each night moored at Port Marina Palamós. Each day you have it from 9:00 to 18:00 or from 9:00 to 19:00, depending on the boat, and you sleep ashore.

It suits you if you are staying nearby and want a different route each day: one day towards Llafranc, another towards S’Agaró.

Sleeping on board

Some boats have cabins designed for overnight stays. According to their listings:

  • Oceanis 331 ‘Breeze’: a 10-metre sailboat with three double cabins, sleeping up to 6 people on board (8 by day), a galley with two burners, fridge and microwave, and a full bathroom. Its listing presents it for day trips or multi-day passages with overnight stays.
  • Bénéteau Oceanis 37: an 11.48-metre sailboat with three double cabins and a saloon that converts into a double bed, plus a galley with fridge and oven. With or without a skipper.
  • Sun Odyssey 40: a 12-metre sailboat with three double cabins, two bunks and two full bathrooms, skipper included.
  • Menorquín 36: a 7.5-metre llaüt for up to 7 people, with a cabin for overnight stays and a bimini top.

Where the boat spends the night (at Port Marina Palamós, in another harbour or at anchor) depends on the boat, your licence and the weather: ask us before booking.

What 3 and 7 days cost

Several motorboats publish 1-, 3- and 7-day rates on their listings, with one column for the rest of the season and another for July and August. Prices per boat, VAT included, fuel extra:

  • Nuva M6 Open, 8 people, with the Licencia de Navegación (the basic Spanish boating licence): 362 € for one day, 1,032 € for three days and 2,304 € for seven days. In July and August, 510 €, 1,453 € and 3,245 €.
  • Jeanneau Cap Camarat 9.0 CC, 11 people: 764 €, 2,177 € and 4,862 €. In July and August, 1,076 €, 3,066 € and 6,847 €.
  • Sterk 26, 9 people: 592 €, 1,687 € and 3,767 €.
  • Salpa Soleil 28, a 12-person RIB: 742 €, 2,115 € and 4,723 €.
  • Gozzo Positano 32 Open, 12 people, always with a skipper: 1,199 €, 3,417 € and 7,631 €, plus the skipper at 200 € a day.

The Cap Camarat 9.0 WA, 9.0 WA Série 2 and 12.5 WA have identical tables on their listings.

Among the sailboats, the Oceanis 331 ‘Breeze’ listing publishes a lower daily rate for 2027 from 7 days. Between 23 July and 26 August, for example, a single day costs 424 €, while rentals of a week or more cost 363 € a day. The Calion 197 and the Remus 620 can also be rented for several days, at the daily rate for their season. For the yachts, ask us: on the Absolute 45, for example, bookings of more than 7 days are on request.

Which licence you need for several days

From 1 October 2026 you need at least the Licencia de Navegación to skipper a rental boat yourself, and each licence has its limits, including when the rental lasts several days:

  • Licencia de Navegación: boats up to 6 metres, daytime only and no more than 2 miles from a harbour, marina or sheltered spot. It works for several days with a return to harbour each evening, for example on the Nuva M6 Open.
  • PNB: motorboats up to 8 metres, up to 5 miles from a harbour or shelter, by day and by night. This is what the Cap Camarat 9.0 models, the Salpa Soleil 28 and the Sterk 26 require, for example.
  • PER: motorboats up to 15 metres and up to 12 miles from the coast. To skipper a sailboat such as the Oceanis 331 or the Oceanis 37 yourself, you need a licence covering sailboats of that length, which in practice means the PER with sailing practicals.
  • No licence: go with a skipper. Several motorboats offer one for 180 € a day, and on the Sun Odyssey 40 it is included.

More detail in our licence guide. If your licence is from another European Economic Area country or the United Kingdom, it is normally valid; check with us before booking.

Nights in another harbour or at anchor

If you want to sleep on board away from Palamós, these figures from the official harbour and tourism guides will help:

  • Llafranc is about 4.5 miles from Port Marina Palamós. Its harbour has 140 berths and takes boats up to 14 metres, but entering in a strong levante (easterly) is not advised: the entrance is shallow.
  • Sant Feliu de Guíxols is about 6.9 miles away and its harbour is one of the most sheltered on the Costa Brava, with room for more than 400 boats.
  • The small harbour of Fornells, in Begur, only takes boats up to 5.5 metres.

Under sail, at 5 or 6 knots, Llafranc is a little under an hour away and Sant Feliu a little over. Do not assume a berth in another harbour is included: ask us first whether it is possible and how much it costs.

To sleep at anchor: the free daytime buoy fields do not allow overnight stays, you must never anchor on Posidonia (seagrass) and swimming zones must be respected. We explain it in how to anchor without damaging Posidonia. The spot depends on that night’s wind: talk it over with us or with the skipper.

What to plan ahead

  • Each day’s forecast. With a tramontana (northerly), head south; with the garbí (south-westerly), set off early and come back with time to spare; with levante and swell, keep it short or take a rest day. It is all in tramontana, levante and garbí.
  • Food and water. If you are sleeping on board, plan your shopping and take plenty of water.
  • The security deposit. On motorboats with multi-day rates the deposit is per rental, not per day: 1,500 € on most and 900 € on the Nuva M6 Open, or 500 € if you go with a skipper.
  • The booking. It is confirmed with 50% paid in advance and the balance 7 days before departure, unless the listing gives a different percentage. Cancellation is free up to 30 days before.

Frequently asked questions

Can I rent for several days with the Licencia de Navegación?

Yes, on boats up to 6 metres such as the Nuva M6 Open, going out by day and staying within 2 miles of a harbour or shelter. Each night the boat returns to Port Marina Palamós.

Can I sleep on a motorboat?

Motorboats with multi-day rates spend the night moored at Port Marina Palamós and their listings do not offer sleeping on board. For that, there are the sailboats and the Menorquín 36.

Is it cheaper to rent for a week?

On several boats, yes. On the Cap Camarat 9.0 CC, for example, a week works out at about 695 € a day compared with 764 € for a single day. On others the daily rate is the same. Each listing shows it.
